My view

Hello!

I have something from my point view today. I want to write about the dark side of social media and how easily can people be affected by posts on social media. This whole blog is about that social media is not real life, but it is hard to know what is true and what is lie.

In this post I want to cover how people compare  themselves to other, how social media can be start of diseases, and fake identities. These themes are really important nowadays, and there are also links between each of theme which I have chosen, and that is why I want to introduce them to you.

“The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.” (Steve Furtick). This quote is true and also explain the whole problem of comparison. There are so many things which you can compare and everyone find what they hate on themselves. However, small amount of people that everyone are unique as a diamond and everyone should love themselves. According to Why We Compare Ourselves to Others on Social Media and How to Stop, where is written perfect quote “The feeling of lack and dissatisfaction that we feel when scrolling through our newsfeed often results from comparing our true reality to our “friends’” idealized, perfectly Instagramed realities.” (Emily Holland).

The second thing is how social media can be start of illnesses, especially eating disorders. People who live their life through their profile on Instagram and post pictures where they are in a gym or just their perfect body, do not know what they can cause. User of Instagram compare himself to bloggers or thin girls and in that moment they are in a trap of Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa. At first it is just about losing weight and building their body shape, but after it is unrealistic goal which can end really bad and the most outcome is dead.

Everyone in their life was in touch with people with fake profile or made one. “People will use fake pictures to make themselves look better, creating a false representation of who they really are.” (Emily Strober). For one side it could be just fun, but for the other could be start of uncertainty. On social media you find a friend, who really want to know everything about you and really care about you, but after while you realise that this person do not even exists and you feel alone and betrayed. This fake identity is often used for cyberbullying, which can have the same outcome as eating disorders. “The victims in this situation are the ones who think that they are talking to a specific person, and then find out it is a complete lie. Overall, there is nothing to get out of it.” (Emily Strober).

Conclusion of this is that you have to know that not everything on social media is true and that you have to love yourself. I want to recommend you these videos, which are beautiful and so true.

  1. It is easy to get lost in the world of the media sometimes, which may have a serious consequences. There should be a higher awareness about an issue, especially for adolescents. Really nice videos :-)
